Summer Activities With Kids!

Summer is finally here! That means, the summer activities begin!! If you are like me, you don’t always have time to think about what to do each day to keep the little ones occupied, so, I’ve done the hard part for you! Here is a list of my favorite summer activities with kids!!

Water days can be more than just going to the pool! While pool days can be fun, it can also seem like a big task to pack up the stuff, get the kids dressed, get to the pool, watch them (and more than likely end up getting in the water), then clean up, pack up, get home, showered, etc.. It can seem like a lot! So, try these instead!

Sprinkler Time! Get an old fashioned sprinkler, set it up, and boom! Hours of fun in your own backyard!

Bath Party! Get together some bath toys or plastic waterproof toys, and bring on the bubbles! Add some food coloring and lights for added fun! You can get as into this as you want! We like doing themed baths where we decorate the bathroom and use toys in the appropriate color! I have another blog post on this, so check it out if this interests you!

Sensory Table! Get a water table or just a large bucket and fill it up with water! Then, add some things like funnels, cups, and toys to let them explore!

An easy way to keep the kids entertained is by simply exploring the outdoors! Here are some of my families favorite nature themed activities!

Nature Scavenger Hunt! Print out a list of items like certain colored leaves or a flower and let your kids explore and hunt for those items. You can make it as easy or as challenging as you want, so it works for all ages!

Build a Nature House! One of my favorite activities to do with my family is building “nature houses”. I gather together rubber bands, glue, and tape, and bring them outside with my class. The kids go on a nature walk to collect materials to build their own houses. They pick up leaves, grass, sticks, rocks, etc. and put them in their basket. After that, we all sit down in a circle and talk about what we collected. Then, we build our houses out of the materials they found outside and the fasteners I brought! During the collection of their nature materials, the children can work with friends or independently. For this part, I stay quiet and let them explore on their own and discover things for themselves. They get to observe the different textures, colors, and patterns in nature. I’ve also noticed they will start planning out how they want to build their houses and thinking about what shapes they need. Throughout the collection process, they can also have time to spend with their friends/siblings sharing ideas and thoughts, while working on their communication skills.

Make a Nature Book! For this activity, have your kiddo collect items from nature then tape and press them into a journal! If your child is old enough, they can write facts about the item on their pages! This is not only fun, but it also gets their brains working!

Movie days can be the easiest way to entertain the kids! Now, a movie day might seem like a cop out but it can still be twisted into an educational activity! Try involving curriculum into the choice of movie! For example, I like to pick a culture each week to learn about! So, last week we learned about Columbia, then we watched Encanto to help reiterate the lessons! We also did a week on England, so we watched La Madeline! They might think it’s just a movie, but you know better!!

Summer doesn’t have to be stressful! For more advice on surviving a summer with kids, check out my Summer Calendar Blog!! I have also partnered with a few other lovely ladies to share some of their favorite activities! So be sure to check those out too!!
