Rainy Day Ideas

Inspiration:

We’ve all been there. It’s 2pm, you’re tired, the kids are hyper, and of course, it’s raining. You can’t go to the park, you can’t go on a walk, and you definitely don’t want to have to get in the car and drive through the rain. So, what do you do? Don’t worry! I have created the perfect list of activities for those rainy day blues!

This might seem like a no brainer, but an easy way to entertain your kiddos is with an old fashioned art project! Both my son (2yo) and my step daughter (12yo) LOVE when they get to tap into their creative sides. Here are a few of our favorites!

  1. Easter Bunny Footprint! This one was perfect for my 2 year old son, Luka. First, we took a blank canvas and put a few random drops of paint on it. Then, we stuck it in a plastic for a mess free toddler painting session! Luka sat at the table with the canvas and smeared the paint around until the entire piece was covered. Next, I painted two circles for the body, outlined in a black pen, and gave our bunny a face. Lastly, we made little foot print bunny ears! We ended up adding a sign that said “Happy Easter” and giving them out as Easter presents!
  2. Draw and Switch! My step daughter’s favorite! For this game, all payers start with a blank piece of paper and markers (or any other types of colors). The first round, you get 1 minute to draw anything you want. When the time is up, you pass your paper to the person on your left and then the 1 minute timer resets. Repeat this process as many times as you want (we usually do 4 rounds). Then, look at your pictures and see what they turned out to be!
  3. DIY Towel! There are a lot of things you can do with a pack of white dish towels! A few ideas that we’ve done: Tie-Dye towels. Instructions are simple, get a white towel and a tie-dye kit. Follow the kits instructions and in a few hours you have customized, colorful towels! Footprint Towels. We do these a lot with Luka! You can make all sorts of cute shapes like butterflies, hearts, and bunny ears! Then, just paint on a cute saying and boom! The perfect Gifts for grandparents!

You’re never too young to get in the kitchen! We love trying new recipes, or getting creative with traditional ones! This can be fun for all ages!! Nervous about cookies with your kiddo?? Check out my post about cooking with toddlers for all the tips and tricks!

Does your child accumulate toys?? Try getting some of those out and having a good old fashioned play date with your kiddo! Nothing beats playing with mom! My son loves hot wheels, trains, and puzzles! So, on rainy days, we like to pull those out and make awesome tracks, build new things, and just get in some imaginative playtime!

Nothing beats a nice bath! Well, except maybe a PARTY BATH!! Yup, that’s right, in our house, we love taking party baths! We get some play pit balls, make a big bubble bath, turn on our disco lights, crank some tunes, and have a mini party right in the comfort of our bath tub! This has turned into one of my son’s favorite activities! Now, we do themed ones for every holiday! If you have siblings or older kiddos, they could do this in swimsuits too!

When in doubt, NAP IT OUT! Sometimes, rainy days call for a long nap! By now, you’ve tapped into your creative side, made something delicious, played with your favorites, and sparked your imagination! All this fun can wear you out! So, curl up in bed, put on a relaxing tune, and just take a nap! You and your kids will wake up ready to go!!

I hope this helped give you some ideas on how to spend your next rainy day! If you have other ideas to add, feel free to leave a comment!!
